Quick-fire victory for Wayfarers

29/ 8/2007

Langley 63, Wilmslow Wayfarers 64-4 (Wayfarers won by 6 wickets)

WILMSLOW Wayfarers made light work of Langley in a six-wicket win.

It was just 4.30pm when a single from Richard Caulfield sealed this year's second quickest finish at Oakwood Farm.

The visitors won the toss and chose to bat but a spell of five wickets in the space of three overs won the game as Wayfarers rose to the pressure in a 'must-win' game for them to keep in touch with the promotion race.

Wayfarers opened with the Joel Unsworth / Martyn Baldwin bowling pair and it wasn't long before they found success.

When Unsworth claimed his third victim, Langley were reeling at 22-3.

Mannion was still at the crease and, with Gregory, steadied the innings. The introduction of Bruce brought the wily old guard members together as they tightened the screw.

The introduction of Bennett led to another breakthrough, removing Mannion for 12 (43-4).

At the 30-over mark, Langley were struggling at 55-6 on the hard track and with no one looking at home on a hard track. The captain came back on to clear up the tail, with Langley subsiding to 63 all out from 37.1 overs.

The swing of Unsworth (six for 18) was well supported by Bruce (three for 16), Bennett (one for five) and Baldwin.

After the turnaround, Homer and Unsworth made light work of the situation and put on 33 in double quick time. After Homer departed for 14, a good mixture of boundaries and fast running between the wickets finished the job for Wayfarers.
