Four-midable Albion

15/ 8/2007

FOOTBALL: WILMSLOW Albion FC began their Manchester League Division One campaign with a 4-1 win over Milton at Oakwood Farm.

New first team manager Paul McGuire has brought in many new faces to strengthen the Wilmslow side.

The hosts started the game by making a defensive mistake in the first two minutes, a back pass intercepted by the Milton striker who finished well.

Albion's equaliser came when a through ball was kicked against Aston by the Milton keeper, Aston raced on to the ball and slotted home comfortably.

Wilmslow kept attacking and Thornton-Brooks was denied a spectacular goal by the keeper.

Midway through the first half, Aston's low cross was well finished by Brookes.

Hampson scored Wilmslow's third goal with a fiercely struck shot after a neat build-up.

The half-time whistle blew with Albion leading 3-1.

The second half started quite lively with both teams having decent opportunities to score, but both keepers pulled off decent saves.

Wilmslow made their first substitution of the half when Chanee replaced Neary, and he made an immediate impact down the right wing.

Milton wasted a great scoring opportunity when an excellent cross was put wide.

Russell almost got a fourth goal for Albion with a good strike after Damien James cut back a decent ball, but the keeper again denied the home side.

The fourth goal did come soon afterwards when Ault was fouled just outside the Milton area. Hampson stepped up and hit a curling effort into the top corner for his second goal.

Wilmslow should have had a fifth goal when Ault's shot came back off the stanchion and was disallowed.

The final whistle blew and Albion were up and running with a 4-1 win.

Wilmslow are away on Saturday in another difficult game against Elton Vale.
