HAMISH Watson is rapidly making a name for himself on the Macclesfield cross country circuit.
The 12-year-old youngster, from Holmes Chapel, swept aside more than 100 other runners to claim firat place in the 3K cross country race, held in Macclesfield in December.
The Terra Nova pupil came out on top of fellow competitors from state and independent schools from in and around the Macclesfield borough, and his victory means that he has now qualified for the Cheshire Championships which will take place on January 17 in Chester. If he runs well at that event, he will go on to represent Cheshire in the National Cross Country Championships
It's the second cross-country success in a couple of weeks for the Wilmslow-based youngster. Last month he put in a powerful performance at the North West Prep School Cross Country championships to take second place in the under-13s race competing against a 75-strong field despite being a year under the age group for the race.
Hamish's top performance at Macclesfield was also matched by two fellow pupils. William Seddon, aged 11 came fifth in the event and William Briggs, aged 11 came sixth. They will also be running in the Cheshire Championships in January.
