Parkin and Nevins inspire revival

SOCCER: Wilmslow Albion reserves 2 East Manchester reserves 1
Albion reserves progressed into the second round of the Open Trophy after a tough encounter at Oakwood Farm.
With East Manchester's first team game postponed, their reserves fielded several first-choice players in an attempt to halt Wilmslow's long winning run.
And the ploy appeared to be working after East took a half-time lead from the penalty spot.
James Marsden's foul gave Stuart Thompson the chance to open the scoring, which he accepted. After manager Jason O'Neil had given his side a half-time roasting, Albion stepped up a gear in the second half and equalised thanks to a fabulous strike from Dean Parkin.
The young striker picked the ball up midway in the East half, and weaved his way towards goal with a terrific run, beating several East Manchester players before coolly finishing to bring the sides level.
With Albion now on top, it was almost inevitable that they would break through and score again, and so it was when Ray Nevins popped up to hit the winner and extend Albion reserves' winning streak to 13 matches.
Albion's first-team match at Dukinfield was postponed last weekend.
This coming Saturday, Albion are at home to form side Prestwich Heys in the second round of the Gilgryst Cup. Kick off at Oakwood Farm is at 1.30pm.
Elsewhere, Albion Ladies suffered a narrow 3-2 defeat at Stockport County Blues, while the club's under-18s continued their impressive from with a 5-1 victory at Northern More Jax.
The under-18s remain second in the table, with only goal difference keeping them off top spot.
