A great day

2/ 4/2008

WILMSLOW’S half marathon took place on Sunday, and local runners enjoyed success, with one local man setting a fantastic precedent.

‘Rocket’ Ron Reed became the first octogenarian to complete the 13-mile course in its 24-year history.

Running in the V80 category, Wilmslow Running Club’s legendary figure crossed the finish line at Mobberley Road in a time of 3hrs 13.13min.

Wilmslow’s first runner home was Mike Halman, who was seventh overall in a fine time of 1.11.49.  Sue Hool led the Wilmslow ladies home, her time of 1.29.46 putting her in 239th.

The event, sponsored by ASICS, was well supported by 3,500 runners.
