Styal enjoy ideal start to new season

STYAL'S opening game of the league season ended in victory over Linotype on Tuesday night.

Styal were 2-1 victors in a tough fixture against a Linotype side who played some good football in periods.

Styal missed a golden opportunity, blazing over from close range early on and Linotype scored midway through the half with a well taken shot on the turn from the inside right position to stun Styal.

Styal evened things up five minutes later when Boardman rose to head home a corner.

Both teams had chances before half time but the game seemed generally flat.

The second half was much more eventful as both teams looked to impose themselves but Styal had the edge.

Full-backs Scarry and McDonnel did better against the tricky Lino forwards and, although the Styal midfield never dominated, the forwards’ hold-up play enabled them to build attacks.

The winning goal came from a penalty, scored by Dickenson after a Lino defender handled a cross in the box midway through the second half.

Dickenson almost scored with a fine volley that hit the bar.

AFTER last year’s successful campaigns in the high profile Cheshire League, the Altrincham Road club is looking forward to renewing acquaintances with their invaluable sponsors, but are also looking for sponsorship from new companies and individuals looking to promote their image locally.

Options available are: programme advertisements, advertising hoardings for the pitch perimeter, reserve and A team sponsorship and website links.

At the end of last season the A team were promoted to Altrincham League Division One and sponsoring this team could be useful for a business that has clients in the Altrincham area.

The first team and reserve teams are active in Cheshire but face opponents in surrounding counties offering broad coverage to any interested sponsors.
