Styal pass stern Garswood test

STYAL overcame a tough, organised Garswood United at the weekend.

After beating Barnton 4-1 in midweek, Styal made the perfect start, Warren Dickenson almost scoring with a free header in the six-yard box after two minutes.

Oliver Barnes and Dave Graham also spurned chances within the opening 10 minutes.

Garswood almost led with their first attack of the game, Styal keeper Jamie Aldred pulling off a fantastic save after a ball over the top evaded Pownall and Vernon defence.

A similar Garswood chance led to the opener on 20 minutes.

Styal struck through Graham. Barnes robbed the keeper and squared to Graham who fired into a empty net.

In the second half, substitute Sefu Chambers shot wide from three yards out.

The winner came 15 minutes from time, Barnes curling the ball into the top corner.

STYAL Reserves drew 1-1 at Middlewich. With several players out injured, they fell behind but Gareth Vernon’s stinging shot earned them a point.
