Agony in Vale defeat

3/ 9/2008

WILMSLOW suffered more agony in an 86-run defeat to Bowdon Vale.

Victory would have all but ensured Wilmslow’s Division Two survival.

Debutant Jags took five wickets as Vale set 186 to win and, in reply, Harris and Bainbridge looked comfortable until Bainbridge was caught at point while Harris was bowled. Fulker and Harding kept the scoreboard ticking along until Wilmslow slumped to 40-5 in the 14th over.

Green and Munslow looked like restoring the run chase until three wickets in one over wiped out all hopes of a win and Wilmslow were finally bowled out, defeat leaving them three points clear of relegation.

Vale also comprehensively beat the second XI by 75 runs. Having bowled the visitors out for 126, Wilmslow were bowled out for a lowly 51, Max Harvey top-scoring with 12.

The third XI bowled their opponents out for 207 but rain ended the game prematurely.
