All-round Anderson

14/ 8/2008

NICK Anderson led the way with bat and ball to send Didsbury into the Cheshire Cup final.

Facing Elworth at Wilmslow Road on Sunday, Didsbury batted first and ended their innings on 138-8.

Anderson made 28, Fawcett 21 and Narayaran 18 but Didsbury’s total seemed achievable despite a heavy downpour which had slowed the outfield.

Elworth lost Davies early in their reply when he was run out for two, while Windle (2-22) and Stoneman (2-15) both bowled perfectly for the conditions.

However, they were overshadowed by Anderson who accounted for Beech, Buckley, Higgins and Crompton to end with figures of 4-28 as Elworth were all out for 79. Didsbury will now face either Bowdon or Hyde in the final.

Didsbury’s seconds were also in action at Neston and extended their lead at the top of the table.

Rupert Wingate-Saul hit 48 as Burnage scrambled to 131 before Andrew Windle’s 5-42 kept the home team in check as they struggled to 103-6.

Burnage collected a useful 10 points despite their game at Middlewich being abandoned.

Mohammed Kamran (63) and Syed Abbas (45) added 88 in 14 overs as Burnage posted 178 all out from 32.4 overs.

However, rainfall during the tea interval prevented any further play taking place, while the seconds’ game against Bowdon was postponed.

South West Manchester were the only one of the local sides competing in last weekend’s Manchester Association Premier Division fixtures.

A rain-reduced game saw South West post 157-6 from 30 overs, Ash Imdad making 54, before further showers left Hindley St Peters with only 25 overs to reach their target.

Hindley duly obliged, hitting 100 from the last 10 overs to win from the final ball.

Whalley Range lost their HC Smith Cup semi-final, dismissed for 209 chasing Swinton Moorside’s 285-5.
