Chester are worthy winners

23/ 7/2008

DESPITE most of Cheshire seemingly being under water, the wicket and ground conditions at Chester were first class.

This was a big game for Wilmslow seconds - after a slow start they had won four of the last six games.

To challenge at the top, however, this was a must-win game.

With Chester batting first, the early exchanges went to Wilmslow.

The Rowe brothers, Tom and Toby, bowled with pace and movement, dismissing both openers.

Chester then had some luck as the enforced bowling changes took effect and some difficult chances went down.

Wilmslow gamely battled on, but this was a good wicket and Chester took full advantage, finishing on 206 for 5.

Tom Rowe, with 4-54, was the pick of the bowlers.

At 110 for 6, Wilmslow were struggling.

Andy Warner (42) and Ethan Harding (22) had both looked comfortable.

It’s frustrating when players are out when well set, but it is also pleasing to see young players flourish. With six wickets down, Toby Rowe (31no) and Max Harvey (25) scattered the field and posed some tough questions.

On this occasion though. Chester did have the answers, and proved worthy winners.
