Crushing defeat for Wilmslow

Wilmslow 68ao, Northwich 69-1 - WILMSLOW crashed to a nine-wicket defeat at the hands of league leaders Northwich last Saturday.

Having elected to bat first on what turned out to be a pitch with variable bounce, Munslow and Goonetilikke struggled for runs as only 15 were scored from the first 12 overs.

However, once both departed, Wilmslow soon found themselves looking down the barrel at 48 for 5.

They were staging a recovery when Sam Wildsmith was unfortunately run out for 13, and Mike Harris was trying to hold the tail together and get the score up to and beyond 100, but the last four wickets tumbled for 10 runs and he was left stranded.

Meanwhile, Wilmslow’s second XI cruised to a five-wicket win over Wistaston, courtesy of Tom Rowe who ran riot through the visitors batters, claiming 6-21, leaving them 129 all out after 44 overs.

In reply Wilmslow were stunned, losing two early wickets, but a 68-run third-wicket partnership between Phil Green (36) and Mark Green (53) eased worries.

It was left to Toby Newson and Max Harvey to take the home side to victory after 36 overs.

The third team played host to Manchester YP and had them reeling on 82 for 4.

However, some hard hitting from the visitors pulled them out of trouble and they eventually posted a decent 224 all out.

In reply, Wilmslow were bowled out for 80, but as usual the juniors enjoyed both a bat and a bowl.
