Full marks for dominant Styal

Styal 263-5, Radbroke Hall 244 (Styal won by 19 runs) - STYAL enjoyed a 25-point haul from their win over Radbroke Hall.

On a blustery but sunny afternoon, Styal won the toss and batted first.

There was a bright start from Steve Vose, who waited until the third over, rather than the first over the previous week, to score the game’s first six.

He departed with the score on 40, another wicket falling soon after. This brought Tim Hadfield together with Dave Vose.

Both scored 50s in a partnership of 120. Vose took three consecutive sixes off an off-spinner before being caught behind for an excellent 74.

John Bradley (46 not out) and skipper Ben Hayes (29 not out) put on 78 with clean, powerful shot-making before a well-timed declaration on 263-5.

After tea, Neil Barker took three for 75, although the first wicket fell at 84.

It wasn’t until Steve Vose entered the attack and got Smith lbw that Styal started to make in-roads.

Wickets began to fall but Radbrooke looked favourites to pull off an unlikely win.

Debutant Wayne Miles picked up a wicket, Steve Shawcross another but it was Vose with four for 64 who took the final wicket with 19 needed.
