Alderley's title aim

THE Right Move Abroad Cheshire County Cricket League begins this weekend, with a host of new faces joining the existing local stars.

Alderley Edge are making a bid to end Oulton Park’s hat-trick of titles by recruiting strongly.

They have acquired Lancashire staff all-rounders Oliver Newby and Simon Marshall, whom they hope will be regularly available, plus former Walshaw professional and Cheshire regular Jason Whittaker.

Returning is top Indian all-rounder Sohail Rauf (pictured) who last season scored a Premier League record 1,103 runs and took 37 wickets.

Former Lancashire opener Mark Currie and all-rounder Alan Day return from a successful winter in Perth grade cricket.

Edge, who finished sixth last year, are at home to Toft on Saturday.

IN THE Meller Braggins Cheshire Cricket League Division Three, Lindow’s main bowlers, Henry Grover and Andy Hume return, as do top-scoring batsmen Dave Smith and Paul Slinn. They travel to new entrants Stockport on Saturday.

Alderley Park take on Prestbury, Chelford play Stretton and,in Division Two, Wilmslow travel to Winsford.

In the Cheshire Building Society Cricket Alliance, Wilmslow Wayfarers host Woodford in a Division Two fixture and Styal travel to Rylands.
