Farrell claims ABA title win
5/ 6/2008
SEVEN years after he first pulled on a pair gloves, 17-year-old Kieran Farrell has become a national boxing champion.
Hotly-tipped favourite Aaron Seldon, of Exeter, was no match for the diminutive dynamo when they squared up in the Junior ABA finals at Everton Park, Liverpool, last Saturday.
The fight lasted only two rounds of the scheduled four before the referee stepped in and stopped the contest to save Seldon further punishment.
Farrell, pictured, who works as an asphalter, boxes in the colours of Boarshaw ABC.
He said: "I’ve worked so hard for this. I can’t believe I actually have the gold medal and will now be boxing for England.
"I reached the national finals last year, but I messed it up at the end.
"This time I was determined nothing would go wrong.
"All the hours of training have paid off."
