PCTs to decide on maternity and children’s services future

4/10/2006

THE RESOLUTION to support retaining inpatient children's and maternity services at Macclesfield Hospital has been handed over to the new primary care trust for the area.

At last week's final board meeting for Eastern Cheshire PCT, members agreed to pass on its formal response to the Making It Better review so the new Central and Eastern Cheshire PCT was aware of its predecessor's position.

The resolution was made formally at a board meeting in March.

The decision on the future of women and children's services at Macclesfield Hospital will be made by a joint committee of PCTs drawn from Greater Manchester, East Cheshire and High Peak. But Eastern Cheshire PCT took the opportunity to respond along with thousands of people from Macclesfield.

The board said they could only support an option which included the retention of inpatient paediatrics and maternity services at East Cheshire NHS Trust.
