Army of cops blitz streets
by Ria Nortcliffe25/ 6/2008
AN ARMY of police officers blitzed the streets of Wilmslow at the weekend in a purge on crime and antisocial behaviour.
The crackdown marked the latest stage in an unprecedented war against nuisance crime which has resulted in 20 high visibility arrests so far.
More than 20 officers flooded the streets and used stop and search powers to check for weapons, issue dispersal orders and confiscate alcohol.
During the month-long operation extra police patrols have also been targeting underage drinkers, drugs and licensees who are not adhering to the conditions of their licence in serving drunks or under-age customers.
Wilmslow’s Neighbourhood Policing Inspector Luke McDonnell said the operation has led to a dramatic reduction in crime at the weekends and has had a positive reaction from Wilmslow residents and many of the town’s licensees.
He said: "We have been putting between 20 and 30 officers on the streets of Wilmslow and Alderley Edge every Friday and Saturday night and they have been on foot patrol with the intention of making Wilmslow a safer place to go out in the evenings. The crackdown was launched after we noticed the number of incidents of disorder, and general antisocial behaviour and drunkenness on the streets had escalated. A number of arrests have been made for fighting and disorder and possession of weapons and drugs."
He said reducing anti social behaviour and putting respect back on the streets of Wilmslow is a priority for police and that he has had "pleasing feedback" about the force’s increased presence. And he pledged that the fight against crime would continue unabated to reign in yobs who make the lives of law abiding Wilmslow residents a misery.
"I’ve noticed a real change in the atmosphere in the town," Insp McDonnell said. "It was a lot more jovial and relaxed and there were no incidents of disorder or disturbances. People have even stopped us in the town to thank us for making them feel safer when they go out at night. The pubs and clubs also appreciate what we’re doing because it makes their job a lot easier. It’s had a really positive impact."

I wish I could have laughed at his stupid remarks last week for Police not attending in Alderley Edge. That showed how pathetic they have become. And those new uniforms are so scruffy and look more like Oswald Moseley’s black shirt than Police officers.

Got an opinion you want to share?
I wonder where the almighty Police were. I would think that the villains would come into Cheshire because there is little, if any active Policing.
Hasn't one Jeweler already pulled out of our neighbours in Macclesfield.
Just an opinion.
