Anger at police after confronting kids
by Ria Nortcliffe18/ 6/2008
AN ALDERLEY parish councillor is furious after police failed to respond to her calls about youths tearing around the village’s park on a mini-motorbike.
Councillor Hazel Bryan-Owen said she called Wilmslow Police after she saw the group of teenagers riding around Beech Road Park while young children were on the playground.
The angry councillor said other householders had also called the police but they were "unresponsive" to the needs of concerned residents.
She told fellow councillors that police need to act to stop the youths congregating on the park, leaving many parents of young children fearful for their safety.
Coun Bryan-Owen said: "I confronted the lads and said that there were young children on the swings and slide and that they cannot ride the bike round here. I got a lot of aggro so I called the police. They said they would come. We waited and other residents called them and were told they would come but nobody did. The lads then ran off."
Coun Bryan-Owen said she then put herself in danger by following the youths home and confronting their parents after feeling as though police had left her with no choice but to take matters into her own hands.
She said: "I heard the bike again on the Saturday and called the police again but no one came so I followed the lads back to their home and had a word with their parents.I am extremely annoyed with the police over this."
Chairman of the parish council Coun Mary Maczkowiak added: "We have no PCSO at the moment and no police in the village. They say there’s hardly any crime around here and yet they still can’t manage the little crime we do have."
Wilmslow NPU Inspector Luke McDonnell said: "All incidents of antisocial behaviour are taken very seriously.
"Alderley Edge is very fortunate to have its own PCSO who does a sterling job, but there are times, due to other policing demands, officers who have responsibility for Alderley might have other incidents to deal with and we have to prioritise them. However, in future, if residents experience anything like this again we would like them to bring it to our attention and we will act on it. We have methods of dealing with these incidents and we are keen to work with the local community to solve any problems. If the councillor concerned would like to get in touch with us we would be happy to meet with her to determine the best way forward."

Got an opinion you want to share?
Just what do you have to do to get the Police to respond. Think about it. If a Councillor cannot get a response, what chance has ordinary, Joe Soap Council Tax Ratepayer got? Have you seen those new uniforms, absolute rubbish, and a complete waste of money. No wonder the Police wanted an increased police concept in the council tax. 2,200 officers one new uniform at say £100. Common sense tells you that to be functional they must have, say 4 if not 5 minimum. That is one hell of a waste of money. I have never seen law enforcement officers looking so scruffy: and they expect respect?
When will the Police actually do their job, properly. Mind you they must be following the Chief Constable’s policy, so perhaps a time to move on?
