Your chance to turn over a new leaf

TURN over a new leaf and enter this year’s Clean and Green Awards.

Residents and businesses are being urged to boost their environmental credentials and help make the town clean and green following the launch of the annual awards.

With the county devoting 2008 to Cheshire’s Year of the Gardens, organisers are calling on shops, businesses, residents and owners of public spaces to bring a garden feel to the street scene.

The competition is open to residents and to community groups as well as businesses, but the Wilmslow Forum is particularly keen to see a greater interest from the commercial sector.

Wilmslow Town Centre Manager Diane Smith said: "We’re asking for nominations for gardens, open spaces and business premises.

"We usually have a lot of support from residents but we want to encourage shops and offices to take part and attract more community groups such as schools, churches and other public bodies. All we ask is that the entries must be visible to the public from the road. You can own the nominated place or simply feel that it is worthy of recognition. It’s free to enter and the winners will be rewarded for their hard work at a special awards ceremony in September."

Strikes Garden Centre has again agreed to sponsor the awards, which will be judged in July by local councillors.

Nominations are welcome from all areas of Wilmslow in residential, commercial and public categories.

Entry forms and more details of the nomination categories are available from Wilmslow Information Centre in Rectory Fields or can be downloaded on the borough council’s website at www.macclesfield.gov.uk

The closing date for entries is June 20 with the awards ceremony at Royal London’s offices on Alderley Road on September 12.
