Third time round for Becky

16/ 4/2008

IT may have been a personal worst, but multi-marathon runner Becky Turner still raised over £1,000 for children with leukaemia as she completed the 26.2 mile course in four hours and 34 minutes.

It’s the fourth marathon and third London Marathon for the 27-year-old who to date has raised a total of more than £6,000 for the children’s charity.

Becky, who works for Alderley Edge based telecoms company Chess, started marathon running when she was just 18 years old.

"I got into it because my mum and dad have always done a lot of running. My mum has done Mont Blanc and Everest marathons recently. It was my ambition to run when I was 18," said Becky who started this year’s race next to a giant chip.  But she said this year’s race was tough as despite regular cycling and swimming, she had not done enough running to be adequately prepared.

She added: "After 16 miles my legs had given up and had just about stopped moving. It was weird because mentally I felt fine. It was just my legs - they were not trained for that kind of distance."

Becky, who crossed the finish line with a giant Cornish pasty, said she was over the moon to have made it round and has already entered the ballot for next year’s event.
