Two thirds are against congestion charging
Alan Salter21/ 3/2007
CONGESTION charging is rejected by almost two out of every
three people in Greater Manchester, an exclusive poll reveals
today.
Public transport fares are on the increase and is now becoming ridiculous. If this continues at the rate it is more people are going to resort to cars. Public transport is a poor and very expensive service

The mayor of London has announced today that he is going to use £12,000,000 of Londoners money to put a satelite in space. The excuse was that it would handle the mobile phone traffic and would prevent more masts being put up! The company making the satelite has admitted that it can/will be used for monitoring cars i.e your car will be tracked from space!! Dont believe anything any politicians say!! If their lips are moving, that means they are lying!! Just look at their expenses on various websites and you will understand that they will be able to claim it back! Each MP costs this country £300,000(minimum) in wages and expenses! And guess what?? you and I will have the privledge of paying for them through 92+ stealth taxes already created since this control freak of a government came into power!! There plenty more "green" taxes on the way!!

if anybody thinks that congestion charging is going to be a global saver there wrong!, they are lemmings lemmings are people who follow the main stream of thinking and can not think for themselfs. How come if the government are so concerened about congestion in manchester they are intruducing c/charging but are also going ahead with the building of multi million pounds casino's in manchster which would bring in probably 100,000 extra visitors and that figure could be 10 times that in real terms
wake up people!

The congestion charge was rejected by more people when it was proposed to be extended to west london. Look what happened there!! It came into effect last month because some little hitler thinks he knows better than everyone else!! This is going to be repeated everywhere up and down this country under the pretence that its a "green issue" now and you will be helping to save the environment. Dont believe the hype about global warming as somehow they will try to connect the congestion issue with global warming! Anyone remeber global cooling and the ozone layer?? that reminds me, didnt the hole in the ozone carry on getting bigger years after everyone stopped using the CFC'c!!

I think you'll find that both Labour AND the Lib Dems support congestion charging. At the end of the day, are we prepared to change our habits to save the planet...or are we just plain selfish and caring not about future generations?

"Is public transport in Greater Manchester a good (i.e cheap, clean and safe) way to travel at present?"
74% said YES in Gtr Manchester! That's very surprising. They should have added words like "enjoyable" and "frequent" to the question.

I totally agree with Chris's previous comment; show your feelings at the ballott box!! Our elected representitive's have voted for this???? I have a 20 - 30 min drive or 90 - 120mins on public transport around Manchester I would have no option but to pay. The Metrolink is no use to anyone unless you live along an already well served rail line.

Rochdale council are the cause of traffic congestion they have turned our duel carriagways into single track carparks, funnelled all traffic to the few roads which are not yet blocked off, erected traffic lights, roundabouts and blocks of concrete in ridiculous places and allowed thousands of houses to be built on what where once industrial sites with no thought of how all the extra traffic would move about. Now they want to charge us for the mess thay have created. CHEEK. Butty. Rochdale.

i have a husband whome has to drive to manchester every day to work cause he cant get a job round our area,i have disabled children that go or regular treatment i manchester so it would cost us a fortune , a fortune we can not afford. I think this goverment is gettin more and more greedy. we pay our road tax weres the money from that going? its not fair on us to have to pay more money, petrol and emision and toll booths and road tax and mots and insurance , We have all this to pay to drive to work just to pay to drive. We pay enough just to live ,its not fair on the poor working familys
I wont be able to drive my children for their treatment my husband will not afford to goto work it is ridiculous! to bring in congestion charges, yeh theres to many cars on the road , A lot proberbly should not be there, band drivers and people driving with out licences ect. then they should be taged so police no were they are so to keep them off the roads.
