With women every puppy has its day

I TOOK Ellie, Mrs B's one-eared pup, for her first walk in town this week. What an eye-opener.

Had I known the effect a tiny rag-eared puppy would have on gorgeous young women I could have saved myself a fortune over the years.

Damsels who wouldn't normally give me the time of day were falling over themselves to say hello. Even my news editor, who's been known to chew me up and spit out the pips, went gooey-eyed like a young schoolgirl.

And to think of the money I've spent on champagne and bouquets when all I ever needed was a scrawny little pup.

  • AS a trainer committed to working with dogs I have very mixed feelings about Crufts. The obedience competition is brilliant and I never miss the retrievers, but the breed dogs are something else.

I'm always amazed at the fancy names owners give to show dogs, but this year's Supreme Champion took my breath away: Fabulous Willy. Who in their right mind would call a dog Fabulous Willy?

It's bad enough this poor little terrier had his hair brushed over his eyes so he couldn't see where he was, but lumbering him with a name like that is just cruel.

Can you imagine walking round the park shouting 'Fabulous Willy'? You'd end up on the Sex Offenders' Register.

I love dogs but some owners are weird.

   Wonderful story. Isn't tripe wonderful. Thank goodness for Vics wit, and at least he does have a life.
