Save our Ho-ho-hospital

Vic Barlow

A DECISION on the fate of services for women and children at Macclesfield Hospital has been delayed due to 'unprecedented public response'. The announcement will now be made in December and is in no way influenced by the fact that unpopular decisions are easier to bury during a public holiday.

Exactly when in December this momentous decision will be revealed has not yet been disclosed but expectation is on the latter half of the month. Any suggestion that this is a deliberate ploy to exploit public goodwill during the Christmas period is totally unfounded and typical of the cynicism expressed throughout the 'Making it Better' consultation.

It's just with so many opinions to consider December is the earliest the project can be completed with the week commencing December 24, being the most likely.

Fifty thousand responses from patients and staff have to be carefully balanced with the views of a dozen managers. It's not an easy decision. On the one hand you have 50,000 staff and patients demanding the maintenance of services and on the other a handful of senior mangers pushing for transfer.

Fifty thousand versus 12... it's a close call. No wonder East Cheshire Primary Care Trust are waiting for the arrival of Three Wise Men.

Fowler it does however question your ethics and honesty, after being banned for your irrational rants. As I said before nothing to do with the topic of the hospital.

The PCT's tactic has always been to close services, and to delay things. They purposely hold meetings when people cannot get to them. Nothing changes with them they are underhanded and overpaid. They are destroying our health service. It is not theirs to ruin.

You're clutching at straws, Mr Bridge - that was a long time ago. And it happened in response to the revelations of you lot using several names - and in response to the obvious 'banning' of anyone who took a different view.

The forum fell to pieces as a result of the predictable lack of debate given that so many had been censored and banned. It ended up just with guys talking about the cricket.
