PR JONES the jewellers was attacked by armed raiders.
PR JONES the jewellers was attacked by armed raiders.

The safest place in Britain? Well then, God help us!

IF YOU were shopping in Wilmslow when raiders threw smoke canisters around Grove Street before smashing their way into Harrington and Hallworth jewellers, or sauntering down Chestergate in Macclesfield when armed raiders attacked PR Jones, or taking the afternoon air as an armed gang ransacked Geralds of Knutsford, you have been unlucky.

If you are Wayne Fletcher fighting for your life in an intensive care unit after being stabbed five times, or one of the other four victims knifed recently on Macclesfield streets, it's all an unfortunate coincidence.

If your name is Mike Brisley, terrorised by masked raiders in your village store, or the new owners attacked within 14 days of taking over, or the two shop girls held up at gunpoint in Tytherington, you are truly jinxed.

Were you the barman of the Bull's Head in Mottram St Andrew battered senseless by an armed gang of masked raiders, or the unfortunate motorist forced to surrender his car by axe-wielding thieves outside Total Fitness Gym, you may be forgiven for not knowing how secure you actually are.

The Borough of Macclesfield is one of the safest places in Britain. Who says so? Cheshire Police and they have statistics to prove it. So next time you are in a jewellers, gym, pub, off-licence or village store when an armed gang bursts through the door, wave those statistics in their face yelling, "Read that." It'll scare the daylights out of them. Carry a copy with you and don't be afraid to use it.

Thank goodness that we have someone like Vic to speak up for us. I do not feel safe.
