Help the aged? Not likely!

I'VE DONE some really stupid things in my time but today's incident takes the biscuit.

I was travelling by train (for Wilmslow residents unfamiliar with this mode of transport it's a multi-wheeled vehicle that runs on tracks) to Birmingham on the Reading Express. I snoozed most of the way, waking only to find we had arrived at Birmingham New Street.

As I hurriedly bundled my belongings together a doddering old lady asked if I would let her know when the train got to her station. The destination on her ticket read Birmingham. I ushered her quickly out of the carriage tossing her luggage onto the platform.

As the train pulled away, a concerned attendant asked me if she was alright.

"Just a bit confused," I replied. "She almost missed her station."

"Where's she heading?"

"I don't know but her train ticket says Birmingham."

"Let's have a look." He took hold of the ticket. "That's the return portion. This lady is going to Reading and that was her train."

Suddenly a feeble voice said: "I'd only just got on it when he pushed me off."

Sometimes you just want to curl up and die.

No Vic's point is, as regular readers will know, that Wilmslow has hardly seen a train for 6 months. Not too far back there were 2 each way per hour on the Styal and Stockport lines plus inter city and other express trains.

Amongst others who have not noticed the absence of trains is Wilmslow's vocal MP.

Ps Vic did you like New Street Station - silly question. Makes Macc look like a palace (and Wilmslow and empty palace).

Final sound off. I commuted from Maccc to Brum for a year. Then we had an 07.25 and an 07.38 from Macc getting you to Brum for 09.00. now you have to get an 07.05 and change at Stoke. Ie it is no longer possible to live in Macc and commute to Brum. Not just Wilmslow that is let down.

Perhaps Disgruntled Wilmslow should grow up if he knows the modern history of the rail service in Wilmslow. Network Rail has made one almighty mess of the rail service to and from Wilmslow. They cannot even install a workable signalling system. If disgruntled ever travelled on a train and tried to use Wilmslow Station he would know better. Good for Vic Barlow for being honest.
