Answer is so easy

WHY are civil liberties groups working themselves into a lather about the record number of inmates in British jails? It’s no mystery: we have more criminals.

Having spent the past four decades lecturing parents, ‘liberating’ our schools, emasculating police and undermining magistrates it’s little wonder that respect for law and order is at an all-time low.

Add to that our prolific indulgence in alcohol and you have the recipe for the anti-social violent incidents happening every day on our streets: a father kicked to death for asking a gang of louts to move on, an innocent shopper killed at a supermarket check out, a pregnant woman kicked in the stomach. What are our courts supposed to do with these thugs? Send them on holiday?

Last week, the Home Secretary tried to restore public confidence in community service by insisting offenders wear high visibility jackets. In less time than it takes to maim a bystander, civil liberty groups were screaming foul.

Of course, in order to wear high-vis jackets offenders need to turn up, which is yet another issue.

There is no public confidence in tagging, restriction orders, ASBOs or any of the non-custodial sentences dreamed up to appease penal reformers – but there is a very easy way for offenders to stay out of jail.

Don’t commit crime.

   Midway, how would you get the criminals on?

Wouldnt it make more sense to put the criminals on first before sailing out to sea?
