How to keep our hospitals clean is not brain surgery

Vic Barlow

I’VE HAD a rather worrying call from a lady who’s just had an x-ray at Macclesfield General. "The staff were wonderful," she told me. "And the patient care was excellent."

So what was the problem? Apparently, the changing room was filthy, with clumps of loose hair rolling around the floor.

"I’m very grateful for the treatment so please don’t blame the nurses," she urged. "I’m just worried about MRSA and I think a hospital should be clean."

So there you have it: the very rational fear of a concerned patient. Surely hospital management can grasp the importance of cleanliness?

It’s one thing losing a loved one to an unavoidable infection, but contracting MRSA due to poor hygiene is unforgivable.

Quite apart from hospital staff, there must be a thousand volunteers capable of cleaning the floors of their local hospital. It’s not brain surgery.

Blame the tories Vic, they sold off hospital cleaning services to the private sector and when you put profit first then sadly standards slip.

It is terrible but not suprising.
