Residents must continue to fight

SOMETIMES I feel like that little boy in The Emperor’s New Clothes.

How can anyone in their right mind think it’s OK to plunder historic old villages to line the pockets of a few developers?

How can the combined will of Alderley and Prestbury residents be so easily cast aside?

Ripping down modest houses to build huge mansions isn’t renovation, it’s devastation.

Of course, patronising developers are telling residents to "get over it", but it isn’t their neighbourhood that’s rumbling to the sound of cement mixers.

Of course, new buyers want to modernise their homes, but doubling the size and building on every inch of land is destroying character.

How come our planning officers are playing dead?

Try doubling the size of your house and see what happens. Unless you have a multi-million pound budget, you’ll be up to your bails in enforcement orders before you can say "Flintoff".

Residents need to fight back while they still have something left to fight for.

I am hardly going to shed a tear over a few ageing millionaires getting upset at the nouveux riche moving into their territory. It certainly isnt news and has happened for hundreds of years.

Quite frankly there are far more pressing issues to be dealt with than the filthy rich, cliquey folk of Alderley and Wilmslow having little hissy fits because they arent getting their own way on something.

No, build build build I say, more mansions for the likes of Rooney and Flintoff, brings a smile to my face :-)
