Why can't MPs play by our rules?

Vic Barlow
19/ 3/2008

THE FURORE surrounding MPs’ expenses has made me think.

The exclusivity of Westminster simply drives a wedge between them and us. How can MPs understand the trials and tribulations of ordinary folk when they live in such a protected bubble?

Surely it makes sense for politicians to experience the same restrictions and uncertainties as everyone else?

Plus a reference to Flash Gordon is hardly insulting, Ming maybe, but not Flash, he saved the earth.

That seams to be a typical Slinkywizard insult about someones name. Soon be up in arms if someone chucked the odd insult his way no doubt.

I find this rich as The Satisfied Customer lives abroad like myself.

It is for the electorate to either do something about it, or accept it.

The situation re expenses etc is nothing short of ridiculous and just about sums up the way Westminster works and the regard they have for the backbone of decent people who make up this country. A disgrace.

The worst offenders are, I believe the Cabinet.

I see that our very own Sir Nicholas features at No. 577 on the M.P.'s expenses list, which is not bad value at all.

I also see that Gordon Brown claims £17,000= for his London home, which is strange seeing as he gets free accomodation in No. 10. David Cameron also gets a healthy expense for his second home in London even though his family home is in Notting Hill.

I think it is a case of all M.P.'s dipping into the expenses tray, a lot more so than others.

Still their expenses pale into insignificance against the MEP's claims. It is all about the Politicians Trough.
