Pensioners suffer as the heat soars

ELDERLY residents were left sweltering in their homes on the hottest day of the year when their heating was automatically switched on - and they could not turn it off.

One person living in Chapel Court, Hawthorn Street, Wilmslow, compared conditions inside their flat to being ‘in an oven with the temperature being turned up slowly’.

As temperatures soared to 26 degrees centigrade, on June 29, residents say the central heating pipes were so hot they could not touch them.
