A makeover fit for a diva

IMAGINE belting out an Andrew Lloyd Webber song on stage at the Bridgewater Hall accompanied by the band of the Royal Marines - alongside super slick soap stars and other veteran showbiz types. Sounds daunting, doesn't it?

Well, now imagine doing it at just 15 years of age, because that's what Hannah Snelton did. Hannah won a competition called School Star, which was organised by the Five Stars Scanner Appeal, and the performance was her prize.

Style In The City decided Hannah's big moment was so important that she deserved a makeover fit for a diva. So, off to Harvey Nichols we headed for a bit of pampering and preening. Andrew Barn of barn://it at Urban Retreat styled Hannah's hair and topped it off with a tiara, while Emma Ekpo at Laura Mercier provided the make-up. Our last visit was to Monsoon to pick up a dress with enough wow factor for centre stage.

With all the important jobs taken care of, we headed to the venue so Hannah could get ready for her big moment.

Backstage, it was celebrity central and I caught up with Antony Cotton, Will Mellor, Carley Stenson and many more stars.

All of them were performing and all of them admitted to feeling a little bit nervous.

Comfort zone

Antony pointed out that singing live takes them out of their comfort zone.

Not that we could tell when they all got on stage, as they did a fantastic job. Although, I reckon Hannah outshone them all.

Not only did she sing like an angel but she looked great and had the stage presence of a seasoned performer.

On Style in the City we also have a feature on beauty sleep. Did you know that our body is more receptive to lotions and potions while we are catching some shut eye? So with that in mind we have hunted out some of the best products on the market.

Talking of which - I'm on the hunt for your top tips for keeping a tan. I've just jetted back from a beautiful break in the sun. Is it just me or does everybody else's tan seem to fade as you queue at passport control in Manchester?

So, if you've got some suggestions for keeping that golden glow, drop me a line at style@channelm.co.uk and we will feature the best ones.
