PREVIEW: The Two Faces Of Mitchell And Webb
by Paul R Taylor8/12/2006
IT'S a struggle to understand why Little Britain is a huge
national phenomenon while Mitchell and Webb's various shows receive
very little mainstream appreciation.
Their latest offering, That Mitchell And Webb Look, made it on to
BBC2 but hardly with the fanfare it deserved. It shares the same
sketch show format as Little Britain but is infinitely more subtle
and surreal.
Sketches include Angel Summoner and BMX Bandit, the Surprising
Adventures of Sir Digby Chicken-Caesar and the anxious SS officers,
who are slowly realising they're the baddies.
Former members of the Cambridge Footlights, David Mitchell and
Robert Webb scored cult success with Peep Show on C4 before That
Mitchell And Webb Look, with both shows adapted from radio.
The Two Faces Of Mitchell And Webb has come in for some criticism,
with reviewers saying their humour hasn't transferred well to the
stage.
Maybe they'd be happier shouting "I'm a laydee!" at Matt Lucas and
David Walliams.
The Two Faces Of Mitchell And Webb is at the Apollo tomorrow
(Saturday). Tickets are priced £19.50.
