Jimmy Carr at the Apollo

CRASS comedian Jimmy Carr brings his fantastically tasteless
two-liners to the Manchester Comedy Festival this Sunday.
The Londoner has been on TV so much in the last few years that it
can't be long before we're presented with "100 Greatest 100
Greatest Shows presented by Jimmy Carr".
But he gets away with it by being one of the funniest men in the
country. Like his predecessor, the great American deadpan comic
Steven Wright, Carr has mastered the art of seeing the world from
odd angles and then turning his observations into razor-sharp
jokes.
"I was stopped in the street by a woman with a clipboard. She said,
`Could you spare a few minutes for cancer research?' I said, `All
right, but we won't get much done.'"
The rest of his jokes are either too rude or too cruel to appear in
a family newspaper. But while he constantly sails close to the wind
and has made a successful career out of being cruel, he's not like
Jim Davidson.
You know he doesn't agree with the prejudices he presents, it's all
post modern irony and satire - all about blurring the boundaries of
what's acceptable than being a bigoted.
As well as the "100 Greatest/Worst" shows, he's also a panel show
regular/addict. He's been on them all: Have I Got News For You;
Never Mind the Buzzcocks; QI and now presents his own, 8 out of 10
Cats.
All prove that he's funny when ad libbing but he's at his
hysterical best when on stage with prepared material. Well worth
the £20 entrance fee.

Apollo this Sunday, October 29.
