11 Men get in tune for the World Cup

A GROUP of musicians are hoping to bring the atmosphere of the terraces to canal-side bars as they sing their World Cup anthem from a barge.

The friends, who play in various bands around Manchester, got together as 11 Men because they were unimpressed with the competition's official anthem - Embrace's World At Your Feet - and recorded their own contribution, Football Mental, at a studio in Chorlton.

The lads now want to bring World Cup fever to Manchester by singing the tune from a barge during England's friendly with Jamaica on June 2.

The barge, which will be equipped with a generator and speakers, will travel past bars in Castlefield before heading towards the Old Trafford football ground.

The song, which can be downloaded for free, has already been played on Terry Christian's BBC Radio Manchester show, and on other stations around the country.

Bass player Julian Homer said: "It was spurred on because the Embrace song was so dreary. We thought we could do a better job."
