Soapbox: Ken says goodbye to enemy Mike
Rachel Broady31/ 3/2006
CORONATION STREET Mike rushes off in seach of
his son - not Danny and not Adam but Mark, the son who slept with
his wife Linda and broke his heart.
Mark is as surprised to see his dad on his doorstep as we are and
half-way through the reunion Mike remembers his son's betrayal -
and ends up on a park bench with a bottle of whisky and a handful
of pills.
He may be more confused - and more determined to swallow those
pills - when Kym Marsh arrives for an audition with Vernon's band
(you remember Vernon, Liz's half-wit drummer boyfriend). The
Hear'Say singer takes the job from under Liz's nose (which is an
achievement considering the size of it) and Liz could be about to
lose her man too.
But it isn't shock that gets Mike after 30 years in Weatherfield.
He escapes from hospital where he's being treated for pneumonia
after a few hours on a cold bench and makes his way back to the
Street. Ken finds him, cold and confused, and as Mike vows that
Deirdre will be his, he dies in his old enemy's arms.
Things are worse still for Chesney. Les is thinking of adopting him
but, thankfully, social services get involved.
Surely they'll drag him away to where he can be brought up by a
nice family who will feed him something other than chips, who will
encourage him to read and tell him off for talking in that
accent.
EMMERDALE Sadie gets her comeuppance when Rosemary
tells her the company she wants is worth nothing and implies that
the French delicacy she tucked into was in fact her beloved horse
Cossack. It's enough to make her wobble on her expensive heels and
she leaves distraught and sickened.
Rodney is playing Cupid and trying to make Paul and Ivan realise
that the love between them still lingers.
The relationship between dodgy doctor Adam and psycho Steph isn't
any better as he proposes just to stop her from being jealous of
his ex wife - so she blurts out that she murdered Shelly.
EASTENDERS Martin is no longer Mr Nice Guy. As
Sonia plans a celebratory party for an Naomi he sets out to
sabotage it. He should just encourage her to hold it in the
Vic.
Jim, however, has a change of heart and defends the girls when a
gang of lads start to pick on them. As consistent as ever, I
see.
