THEATRE: Dr Dolittle, Palace Theatre, from Monday 5th
2/11/2007
ONE of Britain’s best-loved musical stars returns to Manchester in one of Britain’s best loved musicals next week when Doctor Dolittle brings his animal magic to the Palace Theatre.
Popular entertainer Tommy Steele is making a return to the stage for this smash hit production.
Tommy – unbelievably now 70 but looking as boyish and energetic as ever – was arguably the country’s first great home-grown rock ‘n’ roll idol, moving away from teenage stardom here to stage work. He soon established himself as a family entertainer and is forever associated with the films Half A Sixpence and Finian’s Rainbow, and more recently with Scrooge.
His choice of Doctor Dolittle for what will undoubtedly be a successful stage reprise is particularly fitting as Leslie Bricusse’s engaging plot about the man who talks to animals is a musical and visual delight for all ages. Runs from Monday to Wednesday.
