Hi My name is Vivienne nee MacDonald I was born in Wilmslow my father was a Canadian serving in the armed forces so when still a baby I went to live in New Brunswick Canada, returning to Wilmslow a few years later where I attended Chancel Lane School the only teacher I can remember is Mr Pye who owned a bull terrier which he fetched to school it was mainly white in colour with a black patch over its eye. My younger brother Paul attended Lacey Green Primary School so I have recollections of the headmaster and teachers mentioned by both Ian Slater and Bob Faulkner. We returned to Canada after a couple of years this time living in Quebec again returning to Wilmslow some 5 years later attending Wycliff Avenue School fo both boys and girls, at this time I lived in Lyme Avenue next door to Alan Hopley (postman - known by Ian Slater) I married from this address and have two sons who are both married and have families of their own. During this time while the family was young my husband became \Group Scout Leader for 3rd Wilmslow (Lacey Green Troop) John Ellis was the scout Leader, he had a brother called Brian and his father did a lot for the community (were still very much in touch with both John and Brian. I later got roped in to become "Arkala" to one of the two troops of cubs so we got to know Harold Horry very well ( this info for Stuart Broughton)My main reason for this missive is to find out if anybody has any knowledge of the history of Chancel Lane School or any photos I have many books on Wilmslow but all they do is mention Chancel Lane but doent go into any history SO IF ANYBODY CAN HELP PLEASE. I lived on the lakes estate with my brother Clive in the sixties.we used to hand round all the areas of wilmslow , belionged to 1st handforth scouts and also played in the scout band.I have been in australia since 1973 and work over here in perth for my brothers company in importing and exporting . I originally emigrated to queensland and have done many jobs since being here . I am now over in perth enjoying it here still. The number of people who are overseas must be amazing , I was amazed to see eric wright in USA , that really made my day ,.

   I lived in Handforth on the lakes estates went to school in C of E then the Grange then Hough left in 1970 went to Australia in 1974 have been here since I work in sydney (started a company in the international freight business in 1981 we are now no 2 in Australia)and commute to the gold Coast Queensland at the weekend (1 hours flight) and live on the water.I remember the Pop inn then it became the Creole didnt it Marys Tap in Alderley edge The Swan in Wilmslow.Carters Arms,The Bull in Mottram St Andrews.    can anyone remember Mr & Mrs Stanworth or their Daughter Ruth.They lived at Finlow Hill Farm. Over Alderley. I was an evacuee billeted there with my brother. I suppose the farmhouse I have aphoto of has been replaced now. I am now in my mid seventies but still hold fond memories of the area.    I lived in Heald Green from 1958 to 1973, and had several jobs in Wilmslow. Just before I left England, I was working in Bank Square above Lloyd's Bank. There was a chartered accountant company there that had been started in the 1930s by Alfred Brown and Mr. (I forget his first name) Dunseath. It was called Alfred Brown & Co. These were two lovely old men and the files contained clients' accounts written in copperplate handwriting, with rows of figures in pounds, shillings and pence, and fractions of pence. Nobody used calculators and could add up numerous rows of figures in their heads faster than you could operate a calculator or adding machine. In 1972 or 1973, the company was merged with Kidsons, a large interenational accounting firm. The name was changed to Kidsons, Brown & Company. Anyone remember it? jeanjames@telus.net

   Lived with my parents (Doris & Ray Faulkner) on Lacey Green (Holly Bank Road) and attended Lacey Green Primary in the late '50's (Miss Jeffrey, Mrs Hobbs, Mrs Slack, Miss Hamilton & Mr Duckworth who I must thank for my love of poetry!) The headmaster was Mr Burgess. Left Wilmslow for Australia in 1960 and recently returned to Wilmslow for a visit for the first time since leaving. I have a good life here in Australia, married with 2 children and 3 step children and running our own recruitment business. Remember David Blair son of W.C. Blair from R.A.F station had polio and could walk just as well on his hands as we could on our feet.

   I was born in Wilmslow where my family were farmers for at least 350 years! I left in 1954 to serve as a regular soldier in 2nd Battalion Parachute Regt. I still have the newspaper cutting from the "Advertizer" headed "On Duty in Suez"; that was in November 1956. I returned to Wilmslow briefly in 1958, before going to Bible College in London, followed by 3 years in University of Wales. I was ordained in Rochester Cathedral in 1964 and served as a curate in Bromley. My wife, Kathryn, and I, and two children sailed for Paraguay in 1968 to serve with the South American Mission Society. We were invited later to begin a new work in Salvador Brazil. This was followed by numerous other assignments! The last was in DRCongo. Presently, we are working with Portuguese-speaking in Sydney Australia. I would love to have news of any of my old school friends who attended Chancel Lane CofE school from 1942-47. I still have regular contact with Neil Slater, Eric Swindells and his wife Angela and not forgetting Harold Horry who was Group Scout Master for many years. On one occasion I met Gordon Birch who was Head Postmaster at Wilmslow; maybe he is still around?    I'm one of a few former residents of Wilmslow now living in Bermuda. My sister, Gillian and my mother, Marjorie, 99 last Feb. 11th, are also resident there.

   I left Wilmslow in 1980 at the age of 12. I attended Harefield High School for one year, and prior to that was at Ashdene. I remember the Takiars, the Bradshaws, Andrew Fitton, David Williams, John Pearson, Paul Mannion.... Anyone out there remember these people? Or me?!!!

   Some people were commenting on Silvios Bakery and coffee shop. I worked there as a teenager, probably in the years from 1975 or 1976 till 1977--on school holidays and Saturdays. Have good memories of working in the coffee shop with several girls from my school, Peggy and our German manager, who called each of us "Liebling." Our break room was on the third floor, facing the street, and we had a great view of all the shoppers from there.
