John Buckley

FORMER steward of Sunnybank Social Club Mr John Buckley, of Haslingden Hall Care Home, died last Sunday at Fairfield Hospital, Bury, aged 83.
He lived in Helmshore all his life and was formerly of Cherry Tree Way. He enjoyed playing bowls and was captain of the A team at Sunnybank for several years.
Mr Buckley, known as Jack, served with the Royal Navy during the war years as a steward and he cooked for royalty. He had worked as a slipper operative and also at Scapa Porritt, Sunnybank Mill. Later he became a publican at The Station Hotel.
He enjoyed spending time with his family especially his great-grandson, Jamie.
He leaves daughter Barbara, son-in-law Darren, grandchildren Deborah, Nicola, Adam and Ian and great-grandson Jamie.
His funeral is today (Friday) when the Rev Christine Leech will conduct a service and cremation at Accrington at 2.20pm. Donations for the Christie Hospital c/o funeral director: Josephine Durning for Johnson, Durning and Woods Funeral Service, Haslingden.
